Canyons to the Sea OT - Fostering Unique Occupational Therapy Experiences with Families Across Orange County, CA

Research indicates that many children with special needs have difficulty with self-regulation due to atypical responses of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Spending time in natural areas has been shown to decrease the stress response. Therefore we work on fine and gross motor skills in a beautiful, peaceful setting that facilitates increased self-regulation skills "naturally" - literally!

During Canyon Therapy you may choose to have a session at our "Hinterland Clinic," explore in our garden, say hello to and feed our chickens, or pick fruit in the orchard to learn about healthy foods!  Have a swimming session to gain water safety skills, increase strength, or work on sensory needs.  There is also a family-friendly park, a nature center, and a bird sanctuary within the canyon that we often visit during sessions. During Canyon Therapy, we will help you and your child learn to explore nature safely, work on functional OT goals, increase wonder, engagement, self-regulation, and peace - and perhaps even pet a tortoise or or two at the local nature center!
